Kyle Ray is a PlaySafe Athletic Trainer at Corner High School in Alabama. He is originally from Roanoke, Alabama, and graduated with a B.S. in Athletic Training from Troy University in the Spring of 2016 (GO TROJANS!). He received a Masters in Physical Education from the University of West Florida in 2018 after working as a graduate assistant for the UWF Sports Medicine Team. He currently resides in Homewood, AL, and has been with PlaySafe and Corner High School since April of 2018.
Favorite Food: BBQ! Ribs, wings, pulled pork, brisket..... if it can be thrown in a smoker and covered in sauce, I'm all about it.
Favorite Hobbies: A huge passion of mine is playing music. I've been playing bass guitar for several years and hope to take up piano soon! I also enjoy working out and spending time with friends and family.
Who inspires you: Oh, man.. my parents are by far the most influential people in my life. It probably goes without saying, but I wouldn't be who I am without them first and foremost. Professionally, my current successes are all due to those who invested their time in me over the years. I owe so much to Dr. Kim Shaw, Cherise Crisman, the Troy AT class of 2016, and Arnold Gamber at UWF. Even when I may have not deserved it, they all had my back and believed in me. I wouldn't be where I'm at today if it wasn't for them and the life lessons they taught me.
Pet Peeves: I told my sports medicine aids that I would list their names for this, but I'll refrain :) .They threw me a birthday party recently, so they aren't so bad. A false sense of entitlement kind of drives me batty. Also, if you drive slower than the speed limit in the far left lane, you're the worst. Plain and simple.
Secret talents: I'm pretty good at water polo and making up nonsense.
Craziest/most exciting thing you’ve done: I ran a 5K once. I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you think about it, spending 50 bucks just to run is a pretty crazy concept. To me, the most exciting thing I've ever done is see Metallica live in concert. To put it into terms for those who may not understand, it was basically the equivalent of a 12-year-old girl seeing Justin Bieber for the first time. It was something special.
Why you enjoy working for PlaySafe: Playsafe has given me the opportunity to be of service to a great school and community. Not only do I get to provide Corner High with medical coverage, I've also been given the chance to establish a Student Aid program and educate potential health care providers of the future (which might be the scariest concept ever now that I think about it). I am extremely thankful for the job Playsafe has given me and to be a part of the Athletic Training profession. I cannot wait to see what's to come in the years ahead.
