How We PlaySafe

Welcome back to PlaySafe Recap! We have had quite a busy couple of weeks here at PlaySafe and we want to make sure you're all caught up on the latest happenings. We've been busy gearing up for Fall sports, educating coaches on sports safety practices, honoring Certified Athletic Trainers of The Quarter, and oh did we mention hosting one of our biggest annual events of the year?! It's been pretty crazy to say the least, but it's also been tons of fun. There's no better time spent than that in service of others, and at PlaySafe, serving the community is our number one job! So check out what we've been up to and as always, thanks for taking the time to learn more about PlaySafe.

Let's start with the people who make what we do at PlaySafe possible. School hasn't even started yet, but our amazing Athletic Trainers are already hard at work at Clay-Chalkville High School in Alabama. Injuries don't just happen under the Friday Night Lights. In fact, nearly half of sport-related injuries happen during practice and scrimmages. Having ATC's present can literally save a life!

Congratulations are in order! Meet Wade Ollis and Tayler McPherson, Alabama's very own Athletic Trainers of the Quarter. This honor is awarded to the Athletic Trainer(s) that go above and beyond their daily duties. Thank you Wade and Tayler for the example you set and all that you do at Hewitt-Trussville High School!

Next up, we hosted our PlaySafe CARES (Coaches Athletic Readiness Education Series) this past week. This clinic is hosted by PlaySafe every year in an effort to inform and educate youth athletic middle and high school coaches about what it means to PlaySafe! The series consists of topics like injury prevention, what to do in emergencies, safe and unsafe weather conditions, weight training safety, recognizing heat related illnesses, concussions, and sudden cardiac arrest. While our Athletic Trainers are awesome, they can not be everywhere or see everything, and unfortunately, there are still many schools without any trained medical staff at all. In light of this, it is essential that everyone else on the field/court, especially coaches, be educated on how to keep everyone safe! Thank you to all the coaches who came out and took the time to learn!

Last, but definitely not least, PlaySafe hosted it's Annual Kickoff Classic Golf Tournament! We had a day full of fun, starting with breakfast and Tee Time, followed by an awesome game of golf with 24 teams participating! After the game we shared a delicious dinner, had an amazing silent auction, and announced our winners. The best part about this day was that all of the proceeds from the tournament go to a cause that protects the youth athletic community.

As you can see, PlaySafe is always looking for innovative ways to educate, promote, and and advocate for safer athletic participation for youth athletes. Check out our site if you want to learn more about us and don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions! If you're interested in learning about what you can do to help, check out our contact page or contact Jennifer Harvey at 864-278-0550. Once again, thank you for taking the time to see what we've been up to and remember to always PlaySafe!
